Heritage bay

A CALL HAS been made to make Carlisle Bay part of Barbados’ World Heritage Site.
It has come from vice-president of the Barbados Garrison Consortium Inc., Peter Stevens, who said the natural lagoon was integral to the island’s shipping and its Garrison and many of its buildings still remained today.
“It has to be thought of as a natural and cultural heritage site that basically sustained the life of Bridgetown,” he said. “Carlisle Bay, in effect, has given birth to what we now have as a World Heritage Site.”
Stevens was part of a three-man panel, comprising president of the Garrison Consortium, James Blades, and director of the Coastal Zone Management Unit, Dr Leo Brewster, which was discussing issues relating to the Garrison Historic Area and Carlisle Bay.
