Tiny mite makes right

TREMAINE FORDE-CATWELL finally got his revenge – and a pair of national titles to go with it.
Add the 250 and 500 metre sprint crowns to Forde-Catwell’s résumé after the talented CGI G4S Team Swift tiny mite made up for last week’s time trial heartache by upending rival Ajani Miller in both events during cycling’s National Track Championships at the Randolph Field Velodrome on Friday.
It proved the perfect response to Miller’s narrow victory on the Bennetts course, where the fast-rising Fugen cyclist edged Forde-Catwell’s 37.36 minute clocking by a mere six seconds in the time-trial championships.
But Forde-Catwell repaid the favour by taking down his adversary in two straight rides in the 250 sprint before defeating Miller in the 500 metre version.
It was a rough night for Miller, who further lost the individual pursuit final to another Team Swift member – Jacob Kelly.
Kelly’s older sibling and club mate Jesse captured the junior’s equivalent ahead of Fugen’s Kristin Vanderpool while Jamol Eastmond, Stuart Maloney and Patrick Roach won the seniors, masters and juvenile categories respectively.
Deidre Mayers (Team Swift) won both the women’s sprint and individual pursuit titles after Fugen challenger Esther Miller-Rosemond failed to contest either final. (JM)
