Nicholls Baking Combermere and Earthworks Melrose will meet in the final of the Sagicor General Shield competition on Sunday at Kensington Oval.
They advanced to the final after rain caused both semi-finals yesterday to end in no-results.
Under rule 20 (d, b) of the playing conditions, Combermere and Melrose qualified for the final on account of superior net run-rates to their opponents after the preliminary round of matches.
Combermere had a net run rate of (+ 4.1897) to Foundation’s (+1.5238); Melrose had (+2.8257) to Dover’s (+1.0358).
At Desmond Haynes Oval, Combermere, sent in to bat, had reached 11 without loss after 4.2 overs when rain intervened after 25 minutes.
There was no further action due to saturated conditions and the game was officially called off around 2:15 p.m.
At Pine Basin, Old Brigand Dover reached 92 for seven from 12 overs chasing 121 to win when the rain came just after 5:10 p.m. The match was officially called off at 5:20 p.m.
Dover openers Silverton Weekes and Wilbur Bruce put on 37 in four overs before Weekes was bowled for 14 by Rene Mayers.
Victor Patrick struck a double-blow in his second over, removing Bruce for 13 and Stephen Blackett for four.
Bruce was caught at the wicket and Blackett was well taken by Omari Taitt.
Patrick, who ended with four for 32 from six overs, also took the wickets of Malcolm Powlett and Akeem Crookendale cheaply as Dover lost their momentum.
Peter Sealy, with an unbeaten 18 including a six and a four, added an undefeated 27 for the eighth wicket to revive Dover’s hopes until rain had the final say.
Earlier, Melrose made 120 four for from 15 overs in a match limited to 17 overs after more than three hours were lost to rain.
They were 32 without loss after the first interruption at 11:30 a.m.
Barry Lowe lashed a quick-fire 36 with two sixes and one four and shared in a stand of 57 for the fourth wicket with Sherwin Straker who hit 28 not out.
Openers Denis Small and Kevin Greene made 25 and 15 respectively.
Summarized scores
