Some Jamaican athletes missing from London

Days before the start of the Olympic Games, Jamaica’s pre-Olympic training camp is still missing a few ‘big names’. However, team manager Ludlow Watts is expecting to have all 47 track and field team members on campus at their University of Birmingham training base by tomorrow.   It is understood that Asafa Powell, Brigitte Foster-Hylton, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Melaine Walker and Kaliese Spencer have yet to report to camp. The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association treasurer believes that the unusually high number of meets this close to the start of the Olympic Games have made it difficult to have everyone in camp in time, but insists however, that it remains mandatory, despite the obvious concessions.   “This camp has been a bit unique. In the past we have never had so many people compete in so many meets during camp. In Daegu, for instance, there was no event taking place like Diamond Leagues and so on but this has been an unusual camp,” said Watts. Kerron Stewart, Latoya Greaves, Rusheen McDonald and Christine Day, were among a few who arrived in Birmingham on Saturday after competing in meets across Europe.
