BNB Deacons Men have secured top spot in Zone 2 of the Barbados Hockey Federation’s Seven-A-Side Club Tournament.
Playing their last preliminary match at the Hockey AstroTurf at University of the West Indies Cave Hill on Saturday, Deacons trounced the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) 10-1 to book their place in the next round.
Requiring a win to overtake Combermere School Old Scholars (CSOS) and top the zone, Deacons were led by five goals from forward Paul Harding, including a 31st-minute penalty stroke.
Derwin Burrowes, Jamar Lashley, Javier Wharton, Shonkeel Wharton and Neil Franklyn also got on the scoresheet against BDF ’keeper Tamar Bryan. Calvin Prescod scored BDF’s only goal.
In the semis, YMCA will play CSOS while Deacons face All Stars.
The cross-over matches for positions five to eight will feature CIBC FCIB National Sports Council against the Barbados Union of Teachers while Combermere School will oppose BDF.
There will be no matches this weekend but hockey continues with the Outdoor Club League on August 12. (PR/RB).
