Loose on the road

WHETHER THE RAIN fell or the sun shone, revellers were determined to have their last Crop Over jam yesterday.
By 12:45 p.m., the first band, Walk Holy, had made its way down Spring Garden, chipping in the blazing sun to music from Party Monarch finalist Slim Jim. By this time only a few people had gathered on the road to watch.
Blue Box Cart was the next band, and by the time they reached, their “jump” was reduced to a crawl, as some band members appeared tired and barely making it.
The “VAK” band was all about percussion. They walked slowly along Spring Garden while they made their own music on pots, drums and pans.
Fantasy and Baje International followed. By this time the rain was a steady downpour, but the revellers did not mind. Jamming right behind them was Contact band, with the krosfyah truck.
By this time, Spring Garden was packed with the old, young and not-so-young – babies in strollers and in arms – who braved the rain.
Following quickly behind were the Power X 4 revellers who had No Behaveya. With live band Soka Kartel, the jumpers followed Blood and Mikey’s instructions to get loose. The female revellers and flag girls were more than excited to hear the infectious “bubble it, bubble it, bubble it” when they sang Blood’s Go.
Waistline energy was evident in the big, small and in-between.
Power X 4 was the last band to reach Spring Garden for a while after the bands were stopped by police in Brighton, Black Rock, after an unidentified young man was shot. (DB)
