Prime Minister Freundel Stuart insists there is “no need to panic” as Barbados continues to experience “the worst downturn in nearly 100 years”.
In a bid to reassure Barbadians from the diaspora yesterday, the Prime Minister said his Government’s response to the economic position in which Barbados now found itself “has not been an insensitive, gut reaction, but a thoughtful, carefully planned strategy”.
In an address to hundreds assembled at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre for the official opening of the Second Barbados Network Consultation, the Prime Minister said part of that strategy was to use the present situation to forge a new class of entrepreneurs who would use their “God-given talents to create employment and wealth”.
And he restated Government’s intention to integrate Barbadians living abroad into the development process through consultation.
