Blake’s pricey watch could mean trouble

What Yohan Blake’s $500,000 watch won’t tell you is that it’s time to do some explaining. But that’s exactly what time it is for Blake, as the Jamaican sprinter’s spendy wristwear could land him in some hot water.
Blake has been sporting a $500,000 Richard Mille tourbillon watch throughout the Olympics. Other than it being a little wacky to throw on such an expensive accessory before competing, no big deal, right? Well, the International Olympic Committee thinks it is a big deal, and it’s now looking into the matter, according to TNT Magazine.
The Committee’s concern has nothing to do with the watch’s price tag or the shear novelty of sporting it during competitions. Instead, the concern is about the watch not being from Omega, an official sponsor of the 2012 London Olympics.
Athletes are prevented from promoting any brands other than the London 2012 Olympic sponsors, and therefore wearing Richard Mille rather than Omega is not permitted.
Blake won silver in the 100-meter race won by Usain Bolt.
