The 22-year-old triple-jumper, who was born to Barbadian parents but represents the United States, produced the year’s biggest triple jump of 17.81 metres to claim gold in the event at the London Olympics yesterday.
His fourth-round jump helped him to overtake compatriot Will Claye, whose earlier leap of 17.62 metres had taken him into top position.
The 2011 World champion had expressed interest in representing Barbados at one point, but due to technical difficulties was unable to do so.
The achievement of Taylor, whose parents hail from St Philip, was overshadowed on a day Usain Bolt enshrined himself in the Olympic pantheon when he won the 200 metres to complete an extraordinary double-double. (RB/Reuters).
