THE IMPORTANCE of a school does not rest with the principal or the teachers, but the students, says Principal of The Alexandra School, Jeff Broomes.
Broomes, who taught for 22 years at St Lucy Secondary, told some former St Lucy Secondary School students called the 49ers Group that schoolchildren should be the main focus of any teaching institution, as it was back then under the rule of principal Darryl Jordan.
Broomes said his teaching experience at St Lucy Secondary had made him what he was today and the school was easily the best place he had worked.
He also said he hoped to see the day when the institution was renamed the Darryl Jordan Secondary School, as a tribute to its first principal.
He told the gathering Jordan had done his best to make students the main focus of the school.
Addressing the 49ers Group at its 50 And Fabulous Dinner at the Mount Gay Visitors Centre Saturday night, Broomes challenged the members not only to stay together, but to push ahead with positive plans, while giving back to the school. (CAT)
