Time to teach

THERE SHOULD BE no disruption in teaching in the north – or anywhere else in the island – at today’s start of the new school year.
Given the ongoing tensions at The Alexandra and Alma Parris schools and rumours of pending strikes, Barbadians were waiting with bated breath to see if teachers from either school might be staying away from the classroom.
The DAILY NATION has been given the assurance by the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) and the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT), which represent teachers at The Alexandra and Alma Parris respectively, that their members will be reporting for work as scheduled.
BSTU first vice-president Erskine Padmore said again yesterday that his members would resume work as scheduled pending the findings of the Waterman Commission Of Inquiry, set up to look into affairs at The Alexandra School.
