Cable & Wireless (C&W) has put the Social Partnership on notice that it wants to send home more of its employees in another round of retrenchments.
And Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) general secretary Sir Roy Trotman met yesterday with scores of the workers at its Solidarity House headquarters to update them on developments and develop a response.
Workers expected to lose their jobs include staff in the four retail outlets at Sheraton, Warrens, Carlisle House and Windsor Lodge, and from back office operations, including accounting and dispatchers.
Sir Roy said last night that he told C&W, which trades as LIME, it had to write the chairperson of the subcommittee of the Social Partnership – Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo – if it planned to make major job cuts.
