Rosalind Vanterpool has already made history.
Now, she’s looking to rewrite it.
Vanterpool will become the first Barbadian woman to compete at the Figure Olympia Competition in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 28.
She earned this honour after becoming the first Barbadian to win a pro figure contest taking the 2012 IFBB Toronto Pro Figure Competition in June.
Having made it so far, Vanterpool isn’t content on being remembered as just a competitor; she’s hoping to be a real title contender.
At a Press conference yesterday at Archer’s Hall Design Centre in Speightstown, Vanterpool said she was going with the intention of winning the prestigious competition.
“Like all athletes, I’m going there to win,” the diminutive figure queen maintained. “I’m not satisfied with just qualifying for the Olympia. I’m going there with the intention of putting my best foot forward, having some fun, and winning the competition.
“Right now, the competition is about two weeks away, and I am close to ready. Right now, I would say that I’m about one week away from the condition I’m aiming to carry to the Olympia.”
An impressive showing would be a welcome early birthday present, with the 11-year veteran set to turn 48 in October.
Vanterpool will leave on September 25 along with Barbados’ other Olympia representative Lyndon Belgrave who will be competing in the 212-lb and Under Class, coach Carl Moore and manager Matthew Pilgrim.
It was also announced that Archer’s Hall Design Centre along with Joy Bjerkham and Bjorn Bjerkham would be sponsoring Vanterpool.
She pointed out that the sponsorship had played a big part in helping her to prepare both physically and mentally for the tough challenge.
“This sponsorship has really helped me in my preparations. It has helped me to get the items that I need and it has eased the pressure off me having to worry about where I would get that money from.
“Now, I can just concentrate on training and getting my body prepared for the show,” Vanterpool said.
