DETAINEE RAUL GARCIA will be made “as comfortable as possible” until a country willing to accept him is found.
That is the assurance from the Ministry of Defence and Security which issued a Press release on the matter yesterday, making it clear that Garcia, a convicted Cuban, must be detained even after serving time for drug offences and being released from prison since March 11, 2010.
Garcia was detained at Grantley Adams International Airport after his release from HMP Dodds in accordance with Section 22(2) of the Immigration Act Cap. 190 which states that where a deportation order is made against a person, the minister may order that individual to be detained in custody in such place as the minister directs and for such period as may be necessary to make arrangements for removal.
“The Immigration Department made several efforts since 2010 to remove Mr Garcia Castilla from Barbados to his homeland, Cuba,” the statement said.
