Hot shots!

There was a big explosion of talent Saturday night at the Coleridge & Parry School hall in St Peter where the Northern Zone Parish Talent Show was held, featuring talent from St Peter, St Lucy, St Andrew and St James.
The night showcased various acts in dance, drama, song, poetry and mime that were well received by the crowd.
Four acts from those parishes will be going forward to represent their parishes on Saturday, November 17, at the Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Wildey, St Michael.
Although Julie Burnett from St Lucy was the runner-up in her parish, she did well in performing Expressions of Future Hope, dancing across the stage to John King’s How Many More.
Well done
Another representative of St Lucy, Resheeda Broomes, managed to capture the judges’ hearts with her dance called Celebration.
The star of the night, however, was nine-year-old Raanan Hackett who was the obvious choice to represent St James. The young lad demonstrated his ability to sing, doing the original calypso song De New Raanan justice.
Hailing from St Andrew, a group of young, well disciplined dancers calling themselves Anointed Expressions did express themselves.
They rendered a dance piece called Holy Walk, striding across the stage militantly with such confidence and purpose that they came out winners to represent their parish.
Dance seemed to dominate the evening as another group, from the popular Alexandra School, showed that they too can deliver in style.
The show attracted a large crowd, including Senator Haynesley Benn and the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat’s National Coordinator Curtis Gibbons.
During the show a number of prizes were given to patrons, compliments of Dacosta Mannings. (RL)
