Water bill spike

SOME CONSUMERS are being overcharged by the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) because of the way that agency is calculating their bills, says investigations officer Romel Crawford of the Public Counsel’s Office.
And because of this, says Crawford, some consumers could by paying $100 or more than they should be.
In an interview with the DAILY NATION, Crawford and Public Counsel Eli Edwards lamented that the BWA’s billing practices were not in accordance with the law.
Under the Barbados Water Authority (Water And Sewerage Rates) Regulations 2009 (CAP.274A), consumers are to pay that agency according to water supplied by measured cubic metres per month. Therefore, the BWA should not send people bills for water measured for a 34-day period, as has occurred.
