Union still has bite

The trade?union?movement?has not lost its capacity to fight for workers, but has found a way to work with its Social Partners to avoid industrial conflict.
General secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Sir Roy Trotman, stated this yesterday as he opened a three-day seminar/workshop on Climate Change And Transport for local and regional trade unionists at the union’s Labour College at Mangrove, St Philip.
“There are many people who would think that the time has come that we have lost our capacity to bring benefits to our members.
“If we do not have the number of work stoppages as before and if we do not try to change by causing disruption at the level of the workplace, it is not because we can’t do it, but it is because we have arrived at a moment when we ought to be able to find another way,” Sir Roy said. (JS)
