FIFTY days! That’s how long it is expected to take to lay the Regupol surface on the Ryan Brathwaite Track at the Lazaretto site in St Michael.
Work resumed on the track yesterday and officials from Regupol are in the island to oversee the work being done by C.O. Williams Construction.
Last week, Sir Hilary Beckles, principal of the Cave Hill Campus, said the track should be open by yearend and that the surface had been recommended by Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest man.
Recently, Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley said that if the laying of the new track at the National Stadium took longer than expected, school sports would be held at the Lazaretto venue.
This should also allay the fears of hundreds of Barbadian children at the primary and secondary level, as well as track and field fans who eagerly look forward to the Hilary term. (SAT)
