THE FALLEN BARBADIAN heroes who participated  in the two World Wars were honoured yesterday at the annual Remembrance Day service in Heroes Square.
Local armed and unarmed forces came out in their best gear to proudly pay tribute  to those who died in the line  of duty so many years ago.
Represented were the Barbados Regiment, the Barbados Coast Guard, the Royal Barbados Police Force, the Royal Barbados Police  Force Band, the Barbados  Cadet Corps, the Barbados  Fire Service, the Barbados Prison Service, the Barbados Girl Guides’ Association,  the Band of the Barbados Cadet Corps, the St John’s Ambulance Brigade, the Barbados Red Cross, the Barbados Boy Scouts Association and the  Barbados Legion.
The service featured prayers and hymns as well as the traditional wreath-laying at the Cenotaph. At the end of the service, Governor General  Sir Elliott Belgrave, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Defence Force Chief of Staff Colonel Alvin Quintyne and Chief Justice Marston Gibson met the surviving legionnaires.
The large crowd which gathered to witness the service were then treated to the precision drill of participating groups, who co-ordinated  their movements to salute the legionnaires before merging  and marching off.
Remembrance Day has been observed in Commonwealth countries since the end  of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line  of duty. (CA)
