Road tennis?fans who are looking for a repeat of last year’s National Sports Council’s Inter-Parish finals when Barbados’ number one Julian “Michael Jackson” White battled the number two Anthony “Ears” Mitchell at Dover will have to prepare for a different match-up.
Mitchell, who fought White in the recent Belfield finals for over two hours, withdrew from the Christ Church qualifiers which commenced on Saturday night indicating that he would not be taking part in the 2012 edition.
That decision has certainly wrecked Christ Church’s hopes of reaching the A Class finals.
Christ Church will be pinning their hopes on the steady but hardly spectacular duo of Dave Arrundel and Marson Johnson. Last Saturday night, Arrundell qualified for one of the two A Class spots by shaking off a “sow” to defeat Jamal Branch, 8-21, 21-12, 21-18. Branch has relocated after previously vying for a spot in St Michael.
Johnson also needed three sets to put down Junior Wharton, 18-21, 21-18, 21-9. The Masters’ positions will be settled between Peter Moore, Ian Yearwood and Glen Harris with two advancing. Moore and Yearwood represented Christ Church in the previous two competitions. (KB)
