Christmas is exactly two weeks away and the rush to get all the trappings that will make the holiday season complete is on.
An essential for many people is a Christmas tree and the live pines with the unmistakable smell are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to the manufactured ones.
Long before Independence Day came on November 30, there were signs posted across the country advertising the live trees but sales started to really take off from the beginning of the month.
Workers at Super Centre Warrens were not as busy on Monday when a MIDWEEK NATION team stopped by, but they said business was bustling last Sunday.
Their prices range from $74.99 for the four-to five-foot trees and $499.99 for the nine-to ten-foot ones. The four-to five-foot and the taller five-to six-foot pines were all sold out by Monday afternoon.
It was a different story at Atlantic Marketing in The Belle, St Michael. The store has been doing a brisk trade since the trees went on sale last Thursday.
One person had three trees on the back of a truck, and individuals were going into the stocked warehouse and coming out with their tree of choice.
It is understood that two containers of trees were on site and less than a week later they are already on the second container.
Workers said the smaller trees, which started at $150, were already gone and that people could purchase a tree as tall as 15 feet.
A tree is just one item on the list shoppers compile with items to spruce up the various rooms in their houses to bring about that special festive feel. (YB)
