THE CENTRAL BANK OF BARBADOS has doubled its cents collection target from five million ($50 000) to ten million ($100 000) – an unexpected bonus for the Barbados Alzheimer’s Association.
The bank’s deputy director of currency Octavia Gibson made the announcement yesterday when Barbados Labour Party candidate for St George South, Dwight Sutherland, made a donation at his Ellerton branch office.
Gibson said; “As of yesterday, we have collected 8.5 million cents ($85 000). Our original target was five million cents ($50 000) which we almost reached during the recent collection drive in Heroes Square so we have set another target of ten million cents ($100 000).”
Sutherland said the funds were sourced from individuals and a health fair but came mostly from the Love Rock bar. He noted the importance of the association’s work and pledged his branch’s support.
