Hinting that legal action was being taken, businesswoman Asha “Mrs Ram” Mirchandani held an opening ceremony at Furniture Limited yesterday – after it was closed for six months while undertaking an environmental clean-up ordered by the Ministry of Health.
Member of Parliament for Bridgetown, Patrick Todd, cut the ribbon to signal the reopening of the Cumberland Street operation and was taken on a tour by Mirchandani.
Todd said afterwards that he was impressed. He praised Mirchandani for her efforts in improving the quality of service, pointing to what he said was improved ventilation, a comfortable environment in which to shop and a “very clean and hygienic reality on the ground floor”.
He encouraged businesses to ensure that best practices were obtained “in terms of the standards of the facilities available, such as ventilation, cleanliness, and fire prevention procedures, so as to ensure the shopper is not compromised in any way”.
