Tractor ease for small farmers

Small and medium SIZED farmers should find it easier to have their plots ploughed through the motor tractor cultivation project of the Barbados Agricultural Development Marketing Corporation (BADMC).
The initiative was launched yesterday at BADMC headquarters by Minister of Agriculture Dr David Estwick, who said it was implemented to give an ease to farmers experiencing difficulty accessing services in the private sector.
The agency’s chief executive officer, Glendene Bartlett, said private operators were not finding it economically viable to service small plots.
Estwick said that it was therefore necessary for the state to provide the tractor services at a nominal charge so as to promote domestic food production.
