A teenaged couple has been charged with kidnapping a 56-year-old woman – who police say is undergoing counselling as a result of her abduction – and demanding $10 000 for her release.
And despite a lawyer’s appeal for 17-year-old Shanice Fields to be allowed to walk out of court on bail, the girl who prosecutors allege is the “mastermind” behind the kidnapping and ransom plot was remanded to HMP Dodds along with her 19-year-old boyfriend Malachi Ward.
Fields, a resident of Lot 2 Buttals, St George, and Ward, of 1st Avenue Martinique Road, Government Hill, St Michael, yesterday appeared before Magistrate Graveney Bannister at the District “A” Magistrates’ Court No. 1, sitting at Glendairy, to answer the indictable charge of unlawfully removing Sandra King from Rock Hampton Road, Grazettes Landing Scheme, St Michael, without her consent around 6 p.m. on Saturday.
King was allegedly detained at an abandoned house in Welches, St Michael, for four hours during which time ransom calls were made to her son. (DP)
