Police caution to motorists

Police will be getting tough with motorists who park illegally in busy shopping areas around Bridgetown.
Public relations officer with the Royal Barbados Police Force Inspector David Welch appealed to the public to use the designated carparks.
He told NATIONNews that the practice of just “putting down cars willy nilly” has to stop.
“Every year during this time it happens. There are some people who are block alleys, and some of these are emergency alleys. There are major arteries into Roebuck Street in the City for example and we have to be cognizant of any emergencies and keep these clear,” he said.
Welch noted too that motorists who are also “stopping and waiting” for passengers, do not only contribute to the congestion, but can also create a hazard.
“That is why we have also beefed up patrols in the City. We are asking people to refrain from parking indiscriminately and use the carparks which are also there for their safety,” he said.
