Falling branch a close call for two

TWO PEOPLE NARROWLY escaped being injured by a falling tree branch yesterday morning.
A large branch from the almond tree which stands in the car park of the Surfside Restaurant, Holetown, St James, came crashing down, sending an employee of the restaurant and a frequent visitor to the island scampering.
Sophia Jones was walking through the car park to report for work, and having a friendly exchange with John McKeown, who frequently patronises the restaurant during his extended vacations here.
“I heard crackling for like a good five seconds and I started to run . . . ,” Jones said. “I thought it was the whole tree. Where I grew up there are a lot of trees, so I knew then and there the tree was coming down. When I get here [the restaurant] everybody just start to hug me up, because I could have lost my life there.  (YB)
