Only ten points separated the top two houses, and three events were still to be run, when the rains brought a premature end to the St Giles Primary School Inter-House Athletics Championships yesterday at Kensington Oval.
Brewster House (Yellow) maintained their lunchtime lead with 297 points, ten more than Cumberbatch (Green). Adams (Blue), who had been tied with Brewster on 223 at lunch, slipped to third with 279.
Three-time defending champions Parris (Red) were dethroned and they brought up the rear on 255.
Cumberbatch won three relays, taking the Girls’ Sprint Medley, the Under-11 Girls’ 4x100m and the Under-9 Boys’ 4x100m (no times available). Yellow won the Under-9 Girls’ 4×100, while Blue took the Boys’ Sprint Medley.
Jaleen Douglas and Jahlarni Toney won the longer distances, but had to give way in the sprints.
Douglas won the Open Girls’ 600m from Tammeisha Clarke and beat Valicia Maxwell in the Under-13 Girls’ 400 metres.
Toney beat Joseph Eastmond in the 800 metres and held off Maleik Peart in the 400m.
Peart proved stronger in the sprints, winning both the 100 and 200 metres from Shem Leacock and Antoine Grannum, respectively.
Rianna Hurley beat Maxwell to take the 100m, while Kieandrea Farrell won the 200m – Maxwell again finishing second.
Jomario St Hill and Jaliyah Clarke were the undisputed champions of the Under-11 division, winning the 400, 200 and 100 metres.
Clarke was in a class by herself, clearly evident in the 4×100 metres where she brought Cumberbatch home with a lead of roughly 20 metres.
In the Under-9 division, Demario Agard won the Boys’ 80 metres and 100m dash, while Hallam Roach won the 150m.
Tia Edwards took the Girls’ 80m, the 100m went to Serena Edwards and the 150m to Shakiya Harding.
