Cool Runnings on hockey roll

Cool?Runnings?sprinted to their sixth consecutive victory when the University of the West Indies’ Hockey Scrimfest continued on Wednesday night at the UWI AstroTurf.
Led by four goals by Che Warner (9th, 11th, 19th and 22nd minutes) and a hat-trick by Jemar Small (2nd, 8th, 23rd), Cool Runnings blanked the Barbados Defence Force 8-0 to move to a maximum 18 points. The other goal was scored by Ramon Leacock in the 10th minute.
Second-placed Live?Up, who are on 15 points, are making sure that it is not a one-team race, getting their fifth win with a 3-1 triumph over Blackbirds, courtesy of a hat-trick by Akeem Rudder in the fourth, 10th and 30th minutes. Justin Catlin was on target for the Blackbirds in the 13th minute.
Combermere School Old Scholars joined UWI Hockey Club in third position on 10 points with a close 3-2 win over Deacons.
Kamar Bovell (3rd) and Aaron Forde (26th) were on target for CSOS, who also benefited from an own goal by Shakeel Wharton (19th). Jamar Lashley (6th) and Derwin Burrowes (7th) scored for Deacons.
In the other men’s game, All Stars and UWI?Hockey Club drew 1-1. Darrio Cumberbatch gave All Stars the lead in the seventh minute and John?Warner equalized for UWIHC?after 29 minutes.
In the lone women’s match, UWIHC?edged Blackbirds 1-0 through a fifth minute strike by Katrina Alkins. (EZS/JM)
