Three winners?of their last races will clash on today’s Valentine’s Day Race Day at the Garrison Savannah in the curtain Sweetheart Handicap on the fifth day of the Barbados Turf Club’s first season.
Though not the afternoon’s feature race, this event for four-year-old and older horses rated 65-85 and also open to horses rated 64 and below over 1 570 metres should be a thriller. It has attracted the victorious Wild Fire, Run For Your Money and Midnight Touch.
Finding the winner could come down to Wild Fire, Kingdora, Fusaichi Ridge and Run For Your Money.
After knocking on the door for some time, Wild Fire handed in her maiden certificate by making all the running in the Piou Handicap over today’s trip. Her class will be tested but she should represent herself well again.
Fusaichi Ridge has consistently displayed indifferent form with the odd good race in between ordinary efforts. She is more experienced than her stable mate Wild Fire and should carry the lead banner.
Whereas Kingdora has not won a race for some time, he is the most experienced of all entered and that must count for something despite his unimpressive form.
Run For Your Money scrambled home in the Points Of View Luxury Villa Trophy Handicap for horses rated 52-75 over 1 100 metres. He was a surprising third at his last attempt at this trip, beaten by Open Secret against identical company, and his speed will make him a live contender.
Midnight Touch made it win No. 2 from her fourth career start when taking the Heart Disease Memorial Trophy Handicap for horses rated 55-75 over 1 800 metres.
She impressively saw out her race coming from off the pace but her only start at today’s trip resulted in her worst position of ninth. She may find the speed scenario here not to her liking and might prefer a longer distance.
Capere is returning from a lay off last race day and because she is now much better off at the weights, one can expect an improved race from her.
Zaltarr has now strung together two poor efforts and unless there is a torrential downpour it will be hard to make a case for her.
Rock Forever has not put in an encouraging effort recently, while Indanger gave a glimmer of hope two starts back. But even with former champion Jockey Jalon Samuel booked, it will take a really brave individual to back him to enter winner’s enclosure.
