The spoils were shared on Friday, the second day of the Barbados Amateur Swimming Championships at the Aquatic Centre.
But notably absent was the lack of any competitors in the girls’ 15 to 17 division although Amara Gibbs won the 400-metre freestyle in 4 minutes, 44.61 seconds.
In the boys’ 15 to 17 age group, Christian Selby won the 400 free in 4:44.03, about five seconds faster than Jonathan Manning. He also took the 200 fly in 2:17.60 and the 50 breast in 35.77 with Manning second on both occations in 2:31.81 and 36.91.
Grenadian Kerry Olivierre won the boys’ 13 to 14 50m breast in 35.33 seconds from Kent Mullin (35.94), while Alex Sobers won the 400 free in 4:33.76, 16 seconds clear of Nicholas Hall; and the 200 fly in 2:30.78.
Damon St Prix won the 11 to 12 boys’ 200 fly (2:30.03) from Luis Sebastian Weekes (2:30.43) and the 400 free in 4:37.11, again followed by (4:38.40), the latter took the 50 breast in 36.16 seconds, beating Nikolas Sylvester who was second in 38.46.
Among the girls, Hannah Gill won the 11 to 12 400 freestyle (4:39.03) from Alexis Clarke (4:44.80). Kai Proverbs took the shorter 50m breast in 38.21, Clarke again second in 39.51.
Shne’ Joachim touched first in the 50 breast in 40 seconds flat, 2:49 seconds ahead of McKayla Treasure.
Meanwhile, St Prix and Danielle Titus have set the only two records to fall to date.
In Thursday’s session, St Prix posted a new mark of 32.06 seconds in the 11 to 12 boys’ 50m backstroke and Titus clocked 1:07.04 seconds in the girls’ 9 to 10 event over 100 metres. (SAT)
