Clash mars Toppin motorcade

Share post:

TWO INCIDENTS halted yesterday’s motorcade celebrating Ronald Toppin’s fifth election victory for the Barbados Labour Party in St Michael North.
The first occurred in Husbands New Development where a man from a small group of observers snatched a flag from a motorcade participant, broke it and trampled it.
Toppin said the other incident was triggered by one of the participants in his motorcade and escalated into a fight, causing police to be called to the scene in Grazettes.
“This was an individual who misbehaved and, incidentally, who had not taken part in any of my motorcades before,” said Toppin, who has been representing St Michael North for 18 years.
“We decided to call it off because the latter incident put a damper on things, so we didn’t get to finish Grazettes or cover Cave Hill,” he added. Police confirmed that incident. (RJ)
