CCC hit back at Leewards

A spirited fightback by the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) yesterday left their fourth-round WICB Regional 4-Day encounter against the Leeward Islands evenly poised at the close of play on Day 1.
Playing at the 3Ws Oval, CCC had their lower order to thank for getting up to their eventual total of 180, after slumping to 66 for five.
They then took two late wickets, including the prized scalp of West Indies batsman Kieran Powell, to leave the Leewards on 62 for three.
It was another disappointing batting display by the CCC, who no doubt would have been looking to put aside last week’s embarrassing performance against Barbados in a match in which they were humbled inside three days.
And they looked like doing just that when openers Shacaya Thomas and Anthony Alleyne gave them a speedy and promising start, as they raced to 33 without loss after six overs.
