AG worry

Share post:

MINISTER OF HOME AFFAIRS ADRIEL BRATHWAITE is “concerned about the ever increasing” prison population.
And he is equally concerned about the “number of persons on remand and the time spent on remand before trial”.
Brathwaite, addressing the annual awards ceremony of the Barbados Prison Service last Saturday night at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, pledged to tackle those two concerns this year with the introduction of electronic monitoring and a Drug Treatment Court.
He said the population at Dodds Prison, St Philip, had hovered above 1 000 since last year, reaching a maximum daily population of 1 150 or 1 112 men and 38 women last October. The lowest it fell to last year was 1 033. (AGB)
