THOUGH WELCOMING Government’s change of mind to have a stimulus programme, the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) feels it should be more broad-based, as this will benefit more businesses island-wide.
And it’s suggesting that Government should look again at the $600 million stimulus programme announced by Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler to include the lowering of energy costs as this will be a more direct way of benefiting a large cross-section of the population.
BCCI president Lalu Vaswani last night called the initiative a capital works programme as a form of stimulus to the local economy.
He said it would be of benefit to the local construction sector and would certainly make a positive impact on employment there.
