Janeil Craigg is rounding into form at just the right time after throwing 61.94 metres last Sunday to win the men’s javelin at the Falcon Games in Trinidad and Tobago.
This performance was a season’s best by the reigning CARIFTA Games bronze medallist who has been recovering from injury. He is yet to get close to last season’s best of 71.58 metres that became a new junior national record and also qualified him for the World Junior Championships.
Also in the field, Charles Greaves did a season’s best 7.14 metres to place second in the men’s long jump, while Shamar Rock was fourth with 7.02 metres. Dwayne Beckles, of the Barbados Defence Force, fouled two of his first three attempts and finished down the line with a lone legal attempt of 5.83 metres.
Tristan Whitehall copped his second silver medal with 14.76 metres in the men’s shot put and Kemar Holder-Edghill, of BC Trac, was third with 13.91.
Brandon Hope finished third in the Under-18 Boys’ high jump with a best of 1.75 metres.
On the track, Tiana Bowen produced a personal best 56.82 seconds to win the Under-18 Girls’ 400 metres after going into the final with the second fastest time. She edged Thyla-Marie Scott of Cougars (56.85). Her previous best was 57.06 at last year’s CARIFTA Games.
Timeka Jordan was second in the Under-18 Girls’ 100 metres with a time of 12.36 seconds behind Memphis Pioneers’ Jeunice Maxime (12.25).
With 11.76 seconds, Shakera Reece was fifth in the women’s 100 metres and Ariel Jackson sixth in 12.06 seconds.
In the men’s race, Levi Cadogan was second overall in a wind-aided (2.2) 10.34 seconds, just edged by Simplex’s Moriba Morain (10.33), while Shekeim Greaves was fifth in 10.62 seconds.
Tristan Evelyn didn’t get a chance to assess her progress in the Under-18 Girls’ 100-metre hurdles after being disqualified for a false start, but Allana Ince was fourth in 15.48. Shakera Hall was third in the women’s race in 14.96.
Michael Nicholls won the Under-18 Boys’ event in 14.47 and Juwan Augustin-Mayers was third in 15.25. Rhys Phillips, of Rising Stars, was second in the men’s race in 14.68.
Several Springer Memorial Secondary School athletes also competed on the second day, but were out of the medals.
The best performances were recorded by Rosette Hoyte who was fourth in the Under-15 Girls’ 400 metres in 59.95 seconds and Shonte Seale, also fourth in the Under-18 Girls’ high jump with 1.50 metres.
