No sin is ‘small’

A MEMBER OF THE CLERGY is taking businessmen, members of the church and the general public to task over the committing of “small” sins.
Reverend Merlene Lucas, in an impassioned Good Friday morning sermon at St Matthias Anglican Church yesterday, chastised Barbadians for doing and saying things contrary to the will of God, yet not feeling any remorse as they thought those acts were too small to matter.
As she outlined some of the things people did that they thought were minor, she said everyone was there when Jesus was crucified and everyone had a hand in the death of the Son of God
“There are times when we say hurtful things to others; when we take things that do not belong to us and think that it is too small to be regarded as theft; times when we envy those who can do something better than we can . . . times when we make excuses to stay away from the church community a Sunday morning and end up watching one of the televangelists on television and feeling we went to church.”
Lucas also singled out businesspeople who, she said, were often guilty of neglecting their families in the pursuit of wealth while comforting themselves that they were putting bread on the table. (CA)
