THE Oistins Fish Festival was officially launched Thursday night at the Christ Church Foundation School playing field with the traditional floodlit tattoo, which was way below its high standard of years gone by.
The small turnout of muted spectators and the same old same old performances were hardly exciting, the situation being worsened by lighting and sound challenges. One Government member was present – MP and Minister of Health John Boyce – taking the salute along with Assistant Superintendant Leon Blades to signal the start of the programme.
One of the few highlights of the night was the baton-twirling performances of the students of the Regional Police Training Centre as their well coordinated displays were musically supported by the unparalleled Royal Barbados Police Force Band.
Band members would later leave their seats to march, dance and drill in rhythm with their music without a misstep or missing a beat. (KB)
