COORDINATOR of the West Indies Women’s Softball Championship, Rodney Simpson, was arrested on the eve of this year’s tournament, causing yesterday’s scheduled start to be pushed back by a day.
Simpson was preparing to participate in the annual Terry Mayers Memorial Cricket Match between the Media and Entertainers at Meadow Road Playing Field, Pinelands, St Michael, last Thursday night when he was taken into custody by policemen accompanied by a bailiff.
An eyewitness said Simpson was taken from the dressing room that was reserved for the Entertainers about ten minutes before the start of the match.
A sorrowful-looking Simpson was handcuffed to one of the police officers while another held the back of his trousers as he was quickly escorted off the premises and into a police vehicle.
