New QEH snag

After finding homes for most of the 38 elderly patients abandoned at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), the facility now faces the problem of placing seven patients too young for the Geriatric Hospital.
The seven individuals, classified as “young for care”, range between 38 and 59 years old. They are either physically disabled or have long-standing chronic conditions that require care.
“They are too young for the Geriatric Hospital and we don’t have a half-way house to rehabilitate them,” explained Fiona Leacock, the QEH’s consultant for clinical risk management.
“That remains a problem. There are no places for them,” she said yesterday.
