DNA call: MESA wants tests done for all births

A call has been made for DNA tests to be done at birth for all children born in Barbados.
It has come from chairman of the Men’s Educational Support Association (MESA), Ralph Boyce, who feels such tests could be the key to resolution in cases of rape and dispute as well as valuable information for families in later years.
DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms.
“The DNA of the child should be established at birth so that later on, no one can say that child is not theirs. You don’t want ten or 15 years later when problems occur or there are issues with family bonding and so on, someone then has to suddenly find out a child is not theirs,” he told the SUNDAY SUN in an interview yesterday.
