Moseley fave for Pine Hill tourney

Defending champion Russell Moseley and fellow Davis Cup player Seanon Williams will highlight a highly competitive open field when the Pine Hill Tennis Championships serve off at the Ocean View Courts on April 18.
Coming on the heels of Barbados’ recent Davis Cup victory over Puerto Rico, the event is the first major tournament for the year and serves as the first leg of a four-part Courtesy Garage Race Of Champions, where players earn points towards year-end titles.
Moseley starts as the odds-on favourite to repeat after going on a historic streak during which he failed to drop a single match in 2012 while winning six titles, including a first national championship.
But Williams should prove more than a challenge for his Davis Cup teammate after splitting six finals with Moseley at one point over the last two seasons while beating him in three straight national title games.
“This will be great competition as there is a lot of excitement in the air from the recently concluded Davis Cup competition,” said tournament organizer Sydney Lopez.
“We’re also expecting some new players from overseas that will definitely add a different flavour to the tournament.”
Entries for the tournament close on April 17. (JM)
