Spooners Hill are in the finals of the Barbados Netball Association’s Senior Knockout Final after a clinical 81-25 dismissal of Hot Spurs last Monday night at the Netball Stadium.
Spooners Hill comprise almost all of the players who won the title last year competing as NCC Ballers. The only new players are Keisha Griffith and Shondelle Sandiford, while centre court player Sabreena Smith is playing for CO Williams Rangers this season.
Led by former national player Lydia Bishop, who scored 54 goals from 59 attempts, Spooners Hill rushed to a 23-4 first quarter score and were cruising 42-14 at half time when Spurs had their best quarter, scoring ten.
Griffith supported Bishop with 23 goals from 32 attempts and Renee Rudder chipped in with four from six.
Rieah Holder carried the scoring burden for Spurs, shooting all 25 goals from 36 attempts as Shanise Jarvis did not trouble the overall score. She played the role of facilitator, making only one attempt all match.
Spooners Hill will play the winner of last night’s semi-final between Pine Hill St Barnabas and Rangers. NCC Ballers defeated Rangers last year to take the Senior Knockout title.
The final will be played on April 20.
Meanwhile, UWI Blackbirds continued their romp through the league, hammering Bico Delight 40-6 in Division 6.
Melanie Griffith scored 20 from 26 and Sharice Walcott 11 from 18 to lead the Blackbirds who limited Bico Delight to one goal in the first quarter.
Sophia Perch scored two from seven and Leah Maynard four from seven for the losing side.
In Division 3, Esso Police Sports Club defeated St Barnabas 33-24 behind 25 from 29 shooting by Heather Belle and Tabitha Chapman scored 22 goals from 30 attempts to lead Barbados Lumber Company UAC to a 32-26 victory over Newbury.
In Division 4, Pine and Wildey Ballers beat Phoenix Golden Stars 25-17 and Shottas United defeated Structural Systems Silver Raiders 27-18 in Division 5. (SAT)
