One fish vendor became irate after officials confiscated almost all the contents of an icebox at the Bridgetown Fisheries Complex yesterday.
After a “surprise inspection” of close to 150 iceboxes, several varieties of fish, both cut and uncut, were disposed of.
Quality control officer and manager of the Berinda Cox Fish Market, Elvis Bryan, who assisted quality control officer and manager of the Bridgetown Market, Sherlock King, with the inspection, said that the vendor had several species of fish in the same box, “which is a no, no!”
“There is a piece of albacore that is suffering from enzymatic and bacteria spoilage; there are pieces of a shark that is already rotting. Then there is fresh king fish mixed in,” he said.
Yesterday’s inspection followed last Tuesday’s at the Berinda Cox Fish Market in Oistins, where seven dolphins were confiscated.
