THE FIRST CAVALCADE for Crop Over 2013 will take place at Dover Playing Field, Christ Church, next Saturday.
The National Cultural Foundation (NCF) ushered in the Cavalcades dockside on the Wickham Lewis Boardwalk in Bridgetown yesterday with the support of its title partners LIME and HOTT 95.3.
The following two of the three Cavalcades will be held at Belleplaine, St Andrew, on May 18, followed by the Glebe Playing Field on May 24 and closing out the month with the huge preview event scheduled for May 31 at the NCF Car Park, West Terrace, St James.
Speaking at his first official event as NCF interim chief executive officer, Cranston Browne said that the Cavalcades heralded the unofficial start of the season, often hastening the final production of new music from studio to market, and provided national exposure for tunes from emerging and seasoned artistes alike.
He said the Cavalcades afforded entertainers the opportunity to immediately gauge the temperature of their music through crowd response, help the NCF bring the festival to communities, and build momentum for activities to come.
In delivering remarks, LIME’s communications specialist Carolyn Williams-Gayle said “this year’s LIME/HOTT 95.3 Cavalcade theme Outbreak The Epidemic is certainly an apt reminder of why the Cavalcade season exists. As a telecommunications company, LIME is all about connecting people”.
The launch was attended by a festival stakeholders, including sponsors, entertainers and other representatives of the music industry, plus NCF officials. (AH/PR)
