LITTLE KNOWN Dario Pilgrim is now Weymouth Wales’ most talked-about footballer after his injury-time goal sent leaders Barbados Defence Force (BDF) crashing to their first defeat of the Digicel Premier League season on Thursday night.
Pilgrim scored in the first minute of stoppage time (91st minute) as title-holders Wales showed BDF the stuff champions are made of, with a 2-1 victory at the Wildey AstroTurf.
After an unbeaten nine-match first-round streak, the defeat in their first second-round game left BDF on 23 points, four more than second-placed Mackeson Brittons Hill.
Wales joined Claytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame on 17 points as the Bayland-based side suffered a 1-0 loss to Pride of Gall Hill in the night’s first match after Jabarry Chandler converted a penalty in the 15th minute.
The Wales had actually taken the lead in the 20th minute when Anthony Forde headed home a corner from Jabar Greene but teenager Romario Harewood equalized for BDF in the 78th minute.
The Premiership continues today with a double-header at the AstroTurf. Dayrells Road oppose Brittons Hill at 6 p.m. and Families First St John Sonnets face DirecTV Paradise at 8 p.m. (EZS)
