A MAN known for using a plunger moreso than a screwdriver had a near-$100 000 lift recently when he provided services to a very special place.
The man, known as a chronic loser, was contracted through his company to provide three grand fixtures for a certain edifice. The three items plus VAT came to a grand total of $91 402.60.
From what Cou Cou was told, these new fixtures had to be acquired as the old ones were really ancient, as well as broken. And, given the structure they were located in, it was unthinkable to keep them on display.
Nothing wrong with that.
But what has angered some people about this matter is that no one knows where the old ones have gone.
These people are saying that, given their antiquity, the old fixtures should have been sent to the museum for display.
They are saying that if Government is pushing heritage, then this was a piece of Barbadian history that somehow has gone missing and no one seems willing to say where they are.
So the question being quietly asked in heritage circles is: Where have those chandeliers gone?
Uncertain future
A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION put on by one group has left colleagues in the private sector even more anxious about the future.
On Tuesday the group laid bare the dire straits they are in. They showed their colleagues how much costs were increasing while their revenues were weakening for a variety of factors – some local, some foreign.
They said they feared that when some of their businesses scaled down for much-needed renovations, they might not reopen.
The group had the meeting, too, to show that despite all the promises and handouts their situation was not improving appreciably and something had to give soon or some of them would have to opt out.
Changing times
A MAN who has been bent out of shape for a little while now will soon be smiling again if what Cou Cou is hearing is correct.
According to an insider, this man has been identified as the one who will be going to enjoy some cool weather and an enhanced status.
As to how soon is soon, the insider is not sure, because of the tendency of the one who must give the final nod to be slow to act.
As for another man who has not been having the best of times since February, the insider suggested his wait would have to continue.
