FORMER PRIME MINISTER Owen Seymour Arthur is bowing out of elective politics.
The most senior member of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) told the monthly meeting of the party’s Christ Church West branch Sunday evening that, having given 40 years of his life to the 75-year-old party, he would not be contesting another general election.
“The time comes in a person’s life when they have to go on. I have already told the leadership of the party, as I have already told the members of the branch in St Peter, that I would not be contesting another election as a candidate. I really will not,” he told the gathering at the Wotton Resource Centre in Christ Church.
He said, however, he would always be there for the BLP, and would continue to serve it, but assured anyone in doubt about his plans that he did not intend “to go on and go on like Old Man River”.
