Laura Smith and her mount King’s X de Champagne return to the Congo Road Equestrian Centre arena this weekend to defend their Zone 10 Championship in FEI Category C.
They will be challenged by Sara Jones and Ole, winners of the FEI warm-up competition held on May 5. Also in the competition this year is 2011 winner Heather Walker who will be aboard the Gillian Sampson-owned Sky at Dusk.
Other riders competing are Allanah Wilkie, Tammy Pinto, Kim Tryhane, Isobella Copeland and Tristan Blades.
This FEI competition is one of the more prestigious events on the Barbados Equestrian Association calendar. It is held over two days and will be adjudicated by FEI judge Trina Delisser of Jamaica.
This competition literally levels the playing field over the different territories, as the courses are determined by the FEI and all participating federations worldwide have to build the courses exactly according to those plans.
This way, even though the riders are in different countries, they compete under similar conditions.
Last weekend, riders Walker and Georgia Porter, who were accompanied by coach Di Clarke, placed second behind hosts Cayman Islands in the second leg of the Caribbean Equestrian Association Junior Jumping Competition.
With two of the four legs completed, the Cayman Islands are in the lead with 10 points and Barbados are second with six. Trinidad and Tobago have four points and Jamaica two.
The third leg will be held in Trinidad in September. (PR/SAT)
