St Gabriel’s anniversary

PRIME MINISTER FREUNDEL STUART joined students and staff of St Gabriel’s School yesterday as they celebrated the school’s 65th anniversary.
Morning assembly was a programme of prayer, song, dance, music and poetry presented by the children and guest Adrian Bowen. With the students of graduating class J4 taking the lead onstage, the school band played calypso on the steel pan, a classical piece on chime bars, glockenspiels (metal bar xylophones) and wooden xylophones, to the delight of their peers and the Prime Minister sitting in the audience.
St Gabriel’s opened in 1947 with a roll of 28 students housed in one wooden building. Today it is one of the leading private primary schools on the island.
Prime Minister Stuart congratulated the staff and all others who had contributed to the school’s milestone and unveiled a plaque in honour of the occasion, before being escorted on a tour by head teacher Carol Vaughan.
